Delicious Fruity Desserts

Written by Rochel of Barefoot and Cooking

Summer produce makes it a pleasure to eat seasonally. All winter long, I eagerly await the arrival of peaches, plums, berries, melons, and all the other mouth-watering fruits of summer.

My absolute favorite thing in the whole wide world to do (not to be dramatic or anything) is spend a lazy weekend morning at the farmer’s market. From the smell alone, you can almost taste the very essence of summer. I love walking among the stalls with fellow food lovers while day-dreaming about all the things I can make with this week's finds. I love encountering produce I've never seen before; and, I love the challenge of learning how to prepare it.

Fruity Granitas, Sorbets, and Pops

Written by Michele of Veggie Num Nums

As a child, one of the great treats of summer was the ice cream man. In our small town we were fortunate to have two ice cream trucks—The Good Humor man and the no-name ice cream guy. The neighborhood kids were indiscriminate in their tastes, and generic ice cream was just as delicious as name brand. Truly, we could care less; as long as it was cold, and sweet, and delivered by a truck blaring awful circus music, we were ecstatically happy. My mom, as did most moms on our block, kept a jar of change near the front door so that we were ready at a moment’s notice to run headlong into the street once we heard the first few notes from the ice cream truck speakers.
