Easter Recipe Round-Up

Easter is a moveable feast, celebrated not on a fixed date, but on the first Sunday after the full moon following the Spring Equinox. The traditional foods of Easter evoke spiritual symbols, capturing the sorrows and joys of life’s rich pageant in a sumptuous feast.

Here at the Daring Kitchen, we’ve tapped into the collective wisdom of our participating Bakers and Cooks to compile this sweet and savory selection of recipes. Any one of these recipes would be right at home in your holiday meals, whether you’re celebrating Easter or the arrival of Spring (in the northern hemisphere) or Autumn (in the southern hemisphere).

Let’s start with Easter Eggs, an ancient symbol of new life. Sure you could buy one of those kits with the neon colors or sparkles or stickers, but we think you’ll love the simple sophistication of these Naturally Dyed Easter Eggs with Botanical Designs by Phoo-D.

Hot Cross Buns are another Easter ritual with ties to ancient symbols. Mary of One Perfect Bite shares a bit of history and a recipe for these warm & spicy, citrusy delights.

Children will love this Bunny Bread by Sue of Munchkin Munchies. A bread basket full of these adorable bunnies would fit right in to any Easter table setting.

Many families celebrate the holiday with a rich and sweet Easter Bread. Recipes vary by country and culture. Rosa of Rosa’s Yummy Yums shares a recipe for an Italian version of Easter Bread known as Colomba Pasquale or Easter Dove.

Laura of Tiramisu followed centuries-old tradition and baked her Colomba Pasquale in the shape of a dove. Studded with candied orange peel and topped with a sweet almond glaze, this Easter Dove is a sure sign of celebration.

Linda at Make Life Sweeter presents a Croatian Easter Bread known as Sirnica. Linda says it smells “like heaven” and tastes even better.

With another take on Easter bread, Susan of Sticky Gooey Creamy Chewy makes a No-Knead Easter Bread. It’s a beautiful braided loaf complete with festive colored egg in the center.

Once you’ve baked your Easter Bread, you’ll be ready to prepare the rest of your holiday menu. This Smoked Salmon with Poached Egg and Salad by Simone of Junglefrog Cooking would make a fabulous brunch or a stylish starter to an evening meal.

Asparagus is a sure sign of Spring and this Lemony Asparagus Soup by Esi of Dishing Up Delights is surely wonderful. Esi says you can serve it hot or cold; either way it would make a lovely start to an Easter meal.

Karen of Citrus and Candy showcased asparagus in this stunning Asparagus, Leek, and Pepper Flan. It’s a savory vegetable pie on a short crust base of pate brisee and it’s sure to garner rave reviews.

Lo of Burp! Where Food Happens created this Fresh Pea & Asparagus Risotto with Mint to take advantage of the spring-time bounty from her local farmer’s markets. So gorgeous and green, this risotto will steal the show.

For a sophisticated side dish, consider making this Tagliatelle with Lemon & Prosciutto by Monika of Sweet Sensation. With peas and prosciutto in a lemony cream sauce, this pasta dish could just as easily be the main course.

If you’re looking for a marvelous meatless entrée, be sure to check out these Stuffed Red Peppers with Wild Rice, Broccoli, and Feta by Suzana of Home Gourmets. These colorful peppers would also be at home next to a traditional Easter roast.

This Deep-Dish Ham Quiche with Herb & Asparagus Salad by Natashya of Living in the Kitchen with Puppies hits all the right notes for an Easter gathering. According to Natashya, it takes some time to prepare, but the result is a gorgeous savory pie that’s a complete meal in itself.

Lamb is an Easter tradition for many families across the globe. Kelly of Sass & Veracity shares a Mediterranean inspired recipe for Braised Lamb Shanks in a Tomato Herb Sauce. The herb-infused braised lamb, garnished with a fresh & zesty gremolata, is perfect for holiday feasting.

It’s also customary to serve ham on Easter and you can’t go wrong with a honey-baked or smoked ham. But if you’re the type of cook who likes to put a twist on familiar favorites, this Roast Pork with Milk shared by Ellie of Almost Bourdain is worthy of a holiday spread. A pork loin is browned, simmered in milk, and the cooking liquids are transformed into a luscious sauce.

If you’ve still got room for dessert, the Daring Bakers have no shortage of suggestions. Children of all ages will love Not Quite Nigella’s adorable Easter Basket Cupcakes. Double chocolate raspberry cupcakes get dressed up for Easter and are almost too cute to eat.

Amy of Playing House shares a recipe for Lemon-Almond Meringue Tart. Those golden peaks of lemony meringue are irresistible over a buttery almond crust.

The Easter Bunny is sure to visit if you make The Best Carrot Cake, as shared by Jenni of The Gingered Whisk. This carrot cake has double the pleasure with both a buttermilk glaze and cream cheese frosting.

Lisa of Spicy Ice Cream gets in the holiday spirit with this Yoghurt and Almond Cake with Orange Caramel Peaches. If peaches aren’t available, Lisa suggests topping the cake with other fruits.

Frenchie of TBD suggests her Spring is Here / Berry Butter Cake to welcome the season. She pumps up the volume on her triple berry cake by layering it with lemon curd.
