Caring for Cookie Cutters... made of plastic.
I have my nice tin cookie cutters in their fancy packages stacked in a shelf, blah blah blah. For Christmas, I received that large Wilton package of plastic cookie cutters. I don't have any idea what you're supposed to do with plastic.
I found this little snippet online:
When finished with the cookie cutters, plunge them into a sink filled with warm, soap water. It is best to do this soon after baking, so that the dough does not harden onto the plastic, making the cutters more difficult to clean. Wash the cutters with a soft cloth to avoid scratching the surface. Rinse and dry before storing. Avoid using bleach on plastic cutters, as the bleach can be absorbed by the plastic, later leaching into your dough or causing discoloration of the cookie cutters. It is best not to store plastic cutters together in a bowl, as the edges can become dull, making it harder to cut the dough.
But I don't understand. If I can't use bleach, how do I sanitize them for first-time use? Can I boil these plastic things? Or will they melt?
If I can't store them on top of one another, how on earth do you store them? I am 99% certain that as soon as I dump this bucket of cutters, they're never going to fit back into the plastic bin from whence they came (they're just crammed in there anyway). I have currently reserved an entire drawer in my kitchen for stacking these things. Is that the same as "storing them in a bowl", I have no idea...
Does anyone have any tips they could share with me on first-time use, caring for, and storing plastic? I'd really appreciate it, thanks.

I have no idea what the correct answer is, but my plastic ones are just all jumbled up in an old ice-cream plastic container *shrugs*
Also, I should think it's fine just to wash them with dishwashing liquid for the first time, but if you're really worried, maybe use a little Milton (used for steralising kids toys & bottles, if toys and bottles are safe enough to go into a kids mouth after using Milton, it should be ok on cookie cutters).
Like I said, I didin't even know there was a right way when it came to plastic cutters, lol!
I saw a subliminal advertising executive the other day, but only for a second... .
