Macarons

Hey there!
Im from the UK and Ive just started making macarons. Ive made a sucesfull batch of plain macarons but i now want to get a bit more adventurous. I really want to make bright coloured macarons, but in the UK its quite hard to find powderd food colouring, or atleast I havent been able to find any. I have however found food colouring gel, would this work in the batter? I think the problem may occur with evenly distributing it in the batter as you only have to use a small ammount, but Id like to know if anyone has sucesfully used gel instead of powder.
Any help would be much apreciated! Thank you.
Richard

A couple of month's ago the Daring Bakers' did macarons and a lot of people used colouring gel with success, remember to add only the min that will do the job for you since the ingredient ratios are important in macarons. Also you could consider adding the colouring to the almond meal and then drying the meal overnight on a baking dish. Also adding some 1-2 tsp powdered egg whites will certainly help to stablise the batter if you adding a gel.

I order my powdered colours from the UK from these companies:
Best value @ Cake Stuff
Plain & Simple Range
(They also have the Sugarflair range but I've been very happy with the Plain & Simple colours)
Squires Kitchen
Squires Kitchen Professional Range
Professional Designers Range
Cake Craft Shop
Sugarflair Range
I order from all 3 sites regularly and always have fantastic service from them with quick delivery to Ireland.
I've used gel colouring once in a macaron batter (I ran out of powder) but you have to be quite careful with the amount you use, if you want very dark or vibrant colours I'd suggest powders as you can use up to a tablespoon for a 3egg white batch.
Deep burgundy @ Christmas I used gel colouring for this but the batter ended up too wet, you can see they're a little on the flat side
Bright Red @ Christmas - powdered colour
Black liquorice - powdered colour
For pastels, using gell is fine, but again, you can get the same result with powders.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for sharing this information. I really like your way of expressing the opinions and sharing the information. It is good to move as chance bring new things in life, paves the way for advancement, etc. But it is well known to everyone that moving to new location with bulk of goods is not an easy task to move or shift from one place to other place because I have experienced about that and I face the problem like that. There I go to village near to my city faced that problem there.
