New to Daring Kitchen/Blogging
Mon, 03/22/2010 - 20:58
Hi I'm Anna and I love baking, like most of us do. I've been wanting to try new recipes, so I'm planning on signing up for the baking challenges. I've also started up a blog and I posted about me, so I'd love for you to check it out. I'm new to blogging, so it's not great, but I hope to improve throughout different posts. I'd also love to here any thoughts and tips on blogging. There are no photos yet, my camera is broken, but as soon as I get it fixed I'm hoping to post regularly. Here's my blog, so check it out and leave your thoughts on blogging and any tips for first time blogger's. Thanks!

Hi Anna, I'm new here too! Looking forward to participating in challenges and sharing kitchen experiences with everyone!
Hey Anna and Kristen. I just joined today although I have been lurking about Daring Bakers and its blog roll for quite some time. I'm excited for the next/my first challenge-everyone seems very supportive. I've recently started blogging and while I have pictures, they aren't very good but I'm learning.
hej girls - newbie here too
i live in poland so i hope i will be making some modern twist on polish traditional dishes and share with ppl on a net. If you want to check my blog it is here : http://jarinthecity.blogspot.com , it's very fresh and i still not happy with my pictures but one of my post was on tastespotting.com and food gawker so maybe it's not so bad XD
I have question - when the next chalange will be annouced ? i just can't wait to do something for darling kitchen
My blog - http://jarinthecity.blogspot.com
I'm pretty sure it will be on April 1st for daring bakers, not sure about daring cooks. I'm excited too; I'll be on a break from college, using my mom's kitchen, so of course I'm excited. My kitchen in my apartment is a little on the small side for all the messes I tend to make. I think your pictures look really good, much better than one's I would take I'm sure. What kind of camera and equipment do you use?
Hi everyone! I'm new here too
I've been reading cooking blogs forever and finally decided to try starting my own. It's great to feel like part of a community and meet new bloggers!
My blog is still very new too. I'm excited to learn more and keep challenging myself with new and interesting recipes. If you want to take a look, it's: dabblingchef.wordpress.com
Congrats on being on tastespotting and food gawker! That's so exciting!
Can't wait for the first official challenge! Not sure when it will be announced either. I think we have to gain access to the private forums first?
You always see the Daring Bakers' NEW Challenge recipe on the 1st of the month and the reveal date is on the 27th of the month (or later never earlier).
The Daring Cooks' is Challenge recipe is revealed on the 17th of the month and is due on the 14th of the next month. So for example on the 17th of March the Daring Cook's challenge was revealed and it is due on the 14th of April.
I have been blogging over a year now and it is fun and they really is a large foodie group on the internet, some of bloggers are very entertaining such as Dharm who always puts the Daring Bakers challenge in the form of a James Bond story.
I think it is important to have a strong 'voice' on your blog so that it shows your passions and interests that way you will have people coming back again and again. Good photos are not that important in the end it is the interest you garner from your readers.

thanks for all answer - so now we just must wait
oh and i use Nikon 5000 but to be honest i just bought that like a 10 day sago and it's my first camera ever ( don't even ask ... XD ) so i am really still confused about all the option it has.
Anyway - good weekend and good baking

Hi everyone!
I just signed up to be a daring baker a couple days ago. I'm also new to blogging.
I was just wondering how long it takes to be approved; I've already received my account information, but I can't see any of the private forums yet.
Thanks!

Hi Bittersweet Baker, and welcome! You'll be able to see the private forums as of April 1st. That's when the next Daring Baker challenge will be announced. However, you may want to come back tomorrow to see what we've done for March, as the reveal date is the 27th.

Oooo! Can't wait for the reveal! It'll be fun to see if from an "insiders" point of view.
Hi all! I'm new to the Daring Kitchen and to blogging too and I am soooo excited about the upcoming challenge. I confirm that in the rules it says it comes out the first day of the month for the Daring Bakers....that means sooooon. I am at the very beginning of my blog too and I am really not good at blogs
The Daring Kitchen has some very good forum on photography. It gave me some very good tips on how to improve the pictures even with basic tools.....I feel my last two were already better and I do not have a fancy camera.
We, new bloggers should support each other. I have checked your blogs...they look really good. Here is mine if you would like to check it out

Any idea on how to expose your blogs and have people sign in and be your followers?

Hi everyone! I'm Jill and I'm new, too. I'm hoping this challenge will expand my baking horizons and actually force me to update my blog- I don't think I've updated since October
. Bad Blogger.
My blog isn't so much of a food blog, but baking is a hobby of mine. I'll admit after seeing some pictures on the site, I'm a little intimidated- I've never had the knack of making things look effortlessly pretty and almost too good to eat. But I've always embraced the fun and creative aspect of food.
Thanks for letting me introduce myself. I'm really looking forward to some great kitchen adventures and wish everyone luck in the next challenge!
Pleased to meet you all and be in such inspiring company.
love love.

Hey everyone! Nice to meet all of you - I'm new here, too.
My name is Maria and I'm 22 years old living in Southern California. I am pretty new to blogging as well - it seems that I've wanted to start one forever but I never got around to it for one reason or another. I just made one about a week or so ago for the purpose of being a Daring Baker/Cook and I intend on starting with some entries this week on the baking I do for the Easter holiday.
You can check out my blog at: http://www.jsgadventures.blogspot.com/
.. I'll be taking a look at all of yours and admiring your work in the kitchen.
I am so excited for April 1st!
By the way, does anyone here use a lightbox for their food pictures?
I'm making a DIY lightbox tonight to use with my Nikon D40x DSLR camera. Hopefully soon, I'll be able to invest in a macro lens.
I haven't used a lightbox for my photos, but if you build one, I'd love to hear how it works for you. I'm staying with my parents, who have lots of windows, up until the end of this month, but then I move into a nice but much less bright apartment, and I've been thinking that I will have to put one together too.
Hi everyone! (And Happy Easter!)
I'm new here too. I'm just getting familiar with this site and am very excited to participate in this month's challenge. I just started blogging in February (this year) and am a total rookie at all this. The point of starting my blog was to get me to spend less time flipping through my cook books and more time in the kitchen actually cooking...but now I can't stop reading everyone's blogs and I'm stuck in front of my computer! You can check my blog out if you're interested at:

Hi everyone! I have been watching/reading The Daring Kitchen since November but I've been traveling since then and didn't have my own kitchen. I'm finally settled and am hoping to join on with the Daring Cooks and Bakers. I look forward to getting to know everyone better!
This is the address to my blog mannadonn.blogspot.com
Hi gang! Finally took the plunge and joined, although I've been lurking for the past few months. I can't wait for next month's challenge! I don't have a blog as of yet, but as soon as I have one, you'll know
Hi all,
I'm new too, can't wait to receive my confirmation mail so I can join the challenges.
I'm fairly new at food blogging as well, started somewhere in March. Here's my blog, if you're interested!

Hey there! I'm not new to blogging, but I am new to baking/cooking blogging and new to the site. I can't wait to get my first challenge; having been baking at least once a week for the past six months, I've been running out of ideas of new things and this looks like my cure!
Hello everyone!
I'm new here too. I'ma neighbor (literally) of Renata Lacerda and I'm waiting for the next challenge to Darin Bakery.

Hey all! I'm also new and very excited about participating in my first DK event, I signed up for Daring Bakers in the hopes that i'll learn how to make some exciting new dishes.
For those asking about DIY lightboxes, I made my own.
My first was following this tutorial:http://strobist.blogspot.com/2006/07/how-to-diy-10-macro-photo-studio.html
It was good while it lasted, it's perfect for those not wishing to spend a lot of money (it cost me $12 to build the entire thing) but it fell apart rather quickly.
The second tutorial I used was this one: http://www.studiolighting.net/homemade-light-box-for-product-photography... and I LOVE it!! It's very sturdy, easy to clean and light enough to pick up so I can take it outside if I wish to use natural light. I use two small clip lamps, which are 60w each. It was expensive to make though, the foamboard alone cost me almost $50 AU.
Photos can be seen on my site, http://www.ittybittykitchen.com the oldest posts have pics from the cardboard lightbox and the newest ones with the foamboard lightbox. They're not perfect photos, but i'm happy with them for now
Hi everyone! I'm new to the daring kitchen (like most of you) and I would love to get advice on my recipes and blog posts and things. (I'm in high school, so I'm really new to these things.)
Anyway, I would be so happy if you would check out my blog, Flour Child Baking.
Hi,
I'm a mum from Melbourne, Australia who is relishing all this time I have to cook now that I am at home instead of work!
I'm also new to DK and I am really looking forward to the first challenge and getting to know everyone here!

Hello Daring Bakers,
My name is Alisha and I am excited to be joining the Daring Bakers (and Cooks). I love baking and have recently immersed myself in learning new techniques, recipes and the biggest challenge for me, memorizing recipes. I would have to say that I have been impressed with my baking ability but know that there is o' so much to learn. I want to be one of those old ladies that just starts baking in the kitchen and no one knows what she's making until the most delicious delicacy comes out of the oven. That's the goal!
Until then, I am excited to have started a blog, however, I am waiting to post my first blog until something special comes along....we'll see. Maybe the first challenge, maybe I'll try my Grandmother's Cream Puff recipe, I can't decide.
Nonetheless, I am excited for what is to come and to share it with you all!!!
Sincerely,
Alisha

Hi everyone! I just joined up to be a daring baker, though I'm not feeling terribly daring! I've been blogging for around three months, and I'm loving it, looking forward to my first challenge. My blog is Sally in the Galley, please visit and offer some much-needed advice and encouragement!

Hi everyone. I have just signed up to be in the Daring Kitchen, and am a rookie blogger as well. My blog is facing east. I am having a lot of fun playing around with the blog. Hopefully I will become both a better cook and a better photographer as I progress through the challenges. I use a Nikon D90. Any advice will be gratefully received, and I echo the sentiment that we newbies support each other. I am looking forward to visiting all your blogs. I am certain that I will learn so much just from doing that.

Hello... I'm new too.
How to join the Daring Baking Challenge?
My Blog is..

Hello All
Cant exactly remember when I started baking but I do remember loving to bake....always!
So nice to find a place where I can really share my passion for baking (my hubby is not that understanding regarding the difference between swiss meringue buttercream and the italian one!).
I used to peer through the oven glass when I was little, watching the cakes rise and I still do it now, sometimes with my daughter rushing to look through the oven door too! (makes me so proud - sigh)
Anyway, I've been reading food blogs for a while now, I always feel some reassurance when reading them - knowing that someone else had the same hurdles that I went through. And now I thought was the time to start my very own blog! Very anxious because I don't exactly know how great it will be but I am hoping for all your support, comments, criticisms, encouragement, wit, humour (everything!!!) to keep it going.
Like a lot of you guys, I've just joined Daring Bakers (not much of a cook, me) and am giddy with excitement for my first challenge (sad, moi?!)
Hope to hear from you all soon

Hello Ladies
I'm Louise and I live in Sydney
I've just recently heard about the "Daring Baker" and was intrigued enough to join up – now I’m wondering what I’ve gotten myself into
I have never blogged before (had to google how to set up a blog site) and September will be my first Challenge... although reading the one comment about the homemade lightbox has rattled me a bit more - I'm not sure whether to stress about the challenge, the quality of the photos I take or what I write in my blog... oooohhh so many new things in one hit
I have a feeling I’m in for a steep learning curve – but up for the challenge... I think
I’m not able to view anything yet, but I’m guessing I have to wait until the 1st Sept. When I log in on the 1st – will it be evident where I need to be looking?? Guess I'll just have to wait and see...
Any words of reassurance would be most welcome
Hi all!
I'm Ashlae from http://ladycakesbakes.blogspot.com - I started baking in November of 2007, all because I was falling for this guy, who is now my beau of (almost) 3 years. And trust me when I say: the best way to a man's heart it through his stomach.
Anyways, I love baking and writing recipes - I have a very sensitive stomach (nothing processed, no dairy, no hydrogenation, etc.) which limits the things I can eat. I hardly eat anything I bake, but I love making and eating raw brownies and banana softserve (both featured on my blog). I also started this project called www.theedibleartproject.com - where I ice sugar cookies with white royal icing and send 1 dozen to artists to decorate. It's currently a work in progress because I'm so busy with school.. but hopefully I can start directing more attention toward it once I get in the swing of things.
I am excited to start daring kitchen - the whole idea is so intriguing to me and I can't wait to see different variations of the same dessert. Happy baking!
I'm not sure whether to stress about the challenge, the quality of the photos I take or what I write in my blog... oooohhh so many new things in one hit
I hear you! I just started up my blog with the intention of being able to participate in these types of events since I have followed as a lurker for so long now. Every blog that I have come across seems to be so well put together and their photos are so good! It is rather intimidating.
I missed the deadline for this month but I look forward to joining you all in October (or November for you Cooks)!
