With Bastille Day coming up is anyone thinking of trying their hands at a mini French challenge? I am debating whether to try and make a cassoulet or something else, I made a very good french onion soup the other day just for myself and I might do it properly for the family with cheesy croutons.

I usually do a veggie consommé served with French Onion Bread (bread flavoured like French Onion Soup) then a Coq au vin finished with flambéed crêpes Suzette all the recipes are easy. I make the soup, chicken dish and the crêpes the day before and start the bread the night before and finish the bread in the afternoon, and finish the crêpes at the end of the meal, easy and delicious and O so French.

Sorry for the late reply but I had already set myself a Julia Childs inspired Bastille Day challenge of her Tarragon Casserole Chicken and Clafouti. My friend cooked diving scallops for dessert! Pictures don't really do it justice (it was yum) but are at http://mybabyatefrance.blogspot.com/2010/07/happy-bastille-day.html

Because it was somewhat restricted by being a Wednesday night we did a proper french feast of souffle, duck, gratin and creme plombiere on the following Saturday http://mybabyatefrance.blogspot.com/2010/07/saturday-duck.html

Did anyone else cook for Bastille Day?
