Hi, I am Nadia, work at home freelance research consultant and passionate baker and decorator.

I am originally from Pakistan but currently residing in Middle East. I have a 4.5 year old lovely daughter, for whom I quit my full time professional career. I am happy that this paved the way to vent out my baking and decorating skills.

How long have you been a Daring Baker/Daring Cook and what’s your favorite thing about being in the group(s) so far?

Its almost a year now and I love everything about being a Daring Baker. The most important is the wonderful new things you learn from amazing community. Never knew I could make mascarpone cheese so easily at home.

What’s your favorite kitchen gadget? How about your favorite kitchen appliance?

Oven thermometer all the way. Kitchen Aid which I have recently purchased is my all time favorite now.

Are you known for making a certain dish or dessert? If so, what is it?

I run a small cake decorating business locally and that’s what I am famous for – Decorated cakes and cupcakes

Is there any recipe and/or technique that we haven’t covered yet that you’d really like to make/learn?

I would love different techniques particular to certain regions like moon cakes, Arabic sweets, Pakistani sweets also know as mithai.

Do you have a favorite movie? Book? Genre of music? Actor? Actress?

It just changes with time but mainly I am not into movies and music. Books yes, non fiction, self-help, cooking books attract me.

You’ve just won $5000.00!!! What would you spend it on?

I will go globe trotting, exploring towns and cities while eating and learning local dishes.

What is the ultimate comfort food to you?

Pasta

Which season (Winter, Summer, Spring, Fall) is your favorite.. why?

Winter, probably because the part of the world in which I live have very mild winters. I love the food, feel and clothing associated with winters.

Other than cooking and/or baking.. what hobbies do you enjoy?

I enjoy reading books, learning a new language like these days I am learning Arabic.

How long have you been blogging? Do you like it? What’s your favorite post you’ve written?

I have been blogging for over a year now, started in April 2009 to be exact. I extremely love it though there have been gaps but that’s because of the instances in life. Almost all my post are written from my heart so they all are very dear to me.

What’s your favorite cookbook for desserts/baking? What’s your favorite cookbook for savory/cooking?

I have a number of books but I want to buy two books which I think will be my favorite, one is Martha Stewart’s Baking handbook and the other Rose’s Heavenly Cakes. I like some selected recipes from the book I already have but I treasure them all since two of them are hands down from my mother, one is gift from mother-in-law and two are gifts from my sister.

Is there one food that you seriously dislike/hate? If so, which is it and why?

I don’t hate any food but I am allergic to sea food of all kinds.

What’s your favorite flower and/or plant?

Anything green that soothes the eyes.

Do you have a favorite local restaurant? If so, why is it your favorite and what kind of food is served there?

It’s a Chinese restaurant and I love the ambiance and food over there.

Who taught you how to cook and/or bake?

My mother and mother-in-law told me how to cook. In baking my aunt and my mother was a major source of inspiration.

What’s your favorite holiday and why?

My favorite holiday is Eid-ul-Fitr which comes after the holy month of Ramadan – the month of fasting in Islamic calendar. I love the traditions associated with it like new clothes, accessories, charity, food and meeting friends and family.

Reading any good books lately? Which ones?!

I was reading Neuro Linguistic Programming – a self help technique by Charles Faulkner.

You’ve had a rough week. How do you relax after a rough week?

Being a couch potato, munching on some unhealthy snack and read a good book or watch a movie.

Where is your favorite vacation (holiday) destination?

Malaysia

What is your favorite cooking/food related magazine? Why?

None as such.

Do you have a food addiction?

Not as such but I crave for sweets very often.

What did you eat for dinner last night? Did you prepare it or someone else?

I ate Creamy chicken with herbed rice and its my daughters’ and mine favorite dish. Its super quick to prepare and I prepare it myself.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Cookies or cake.

What kind of colors do you like? Pastels? Earth tones? Brights? Neons? Etc.

Pastels and bright both, I love colors.

If you had the choice of a free kitchen, bathroom, living room or bedroom makeover – which would you choose and why?

Kitchen all the way as my best time is spent there.

The Martha – Angel of Domestication or Minion of Evil? Why?

I think Angel, you don’t have to be perfect, she has army of people but yes you can take many ideas, recipes and tips from her.

Do you watch any competitive cooking shows? Like Top Chef or Hell’s Kitchen? If so, which is your favorite and why?

I used to follow Hell’s kitchen but stopped watching it since I think it was going overboard and too fabricated.

What’s your favorite “sweet” spice? How about your favorite “savory” spice?

Cinnamon all the way

If you could eat in any celebrity chef’s restaurant which restaurant would it be, and which chef owns it?

No idea, never thought of it.

What’s your favorite herb to cook or bake with? Do you prefer fresh or dried?

Green coriander or cilantro. Fresh.
