Hi all! My name is Sarah and I am 25 years old and live in Kentucky.

My day job is as an office manager at a pediatric office where I have worked since I was 17! It’s good for paying the bills, but my passion lies in creating things with my hands. I bake (which is why I’m here), knit, scrapbook, sew a bit, and pretty much dabble in anything that remotely interests me! I have been married for 3 years to my wonderful husband and we have a sweet little bulldog who is our child for now. I got a degree in religious studies & philosophy but would love to go to culinary school someday. My ultimate dreams are to one day have a bakery, and to be a mom!

How long have you been a Daring Baker/Daring Cook and what’s your favorite thing about being in the group(s) so far?

I’m new to the Daring Bakers—have only been here since July 2009. I love that it challenges me to make things and try techniques that I would never attempt otherwise.

What’s your favorite kitchen gadget? How about your favorite kitchen appliance?

I LOVE my Kitchenaid stand mixer—and it’s red! I also love my George foreman next grilleration grill—in addition to being red, it has 5 interchangeable plates including waffle plates. It’s great for making hot sandwiches, wraps, and quesadillas really fast without heating up the kitchen.

Are you known for making a certain dish or dessert? If so, what is it?

I’m known for my hash brown casserole and sourdough bread, but mainly just for bringing treats to work every week and trying to feed everyone!

You’ve just won $5000.00!!!

Probably books: cookbooks, fiction, memoirs, religious books, magazines…I LOVE to read and cannot stop buying books & magazines! I’m a sucker for any “special edition” cooking and baking magazines—especially the holiday ones—and I currently subscribe to at least 15 magazines…it’s too many—I’m months behind in reading them! I would also probably spend some on antique dishes and other kitchen doo-dads.

Which season (Winter, Summer, Spring, Fall) is your favorite.. why?

I especially love the in-between seasons: fall & spring. I like moderate temperatures. In general, I HATE being hot, so I can handle anything but summer. Spring & fall are especially nice because you see such beautiful changes in nature: leaves and flowers starting to grow, or changing colors before the winter. Lovely.

How long have you been blogging? Do you like it? What’s your favorite post you’ve written?

I’m pretty new to blogging. I started in February of 2009 after reading some blogs of friends, and I have quickly gotten hooked! I follow over a hundred and read every single post. I started out just blogging general life stuff, but quickly got into blogging about food and started following tons of baking blogs. I love that, in addition to meeting so many new people, it is a way for me to re-connect and stay connected with my many friends who don’t live nearby. There are a lot of people that I knew marginally in college that I have developed closer relationships with through our blogs. I have also always loved to write, so this gives me an outlet—and it is so much more therapeutic than a journal—I’m a total comment whore too! I think my favorite post I’ve written was “rose carnage” in May 2009 when my bulldog destroyed one of my new rose bushes. The pictures I got were hilarious and I thought the post was very cute.

Who taught you how to cook and/or bake?

I’ve really taught myself everything when it’s come to techniques and recipes, but my mom and both of my grandmothers had great loves of cooking, baking, and feeding people. We’re all naturally very nurturing. I rarely (if ever) actually got in the kitchen with any of them, but they taught me to love it.

What’s your favorite holiday and why?

Christmas of course! I love the cool weather, the religious significance for me, the time off work and with family, the presents (I love buying or making gifts), the smells, and the food is the best ever!! Fall and winter are the times for baking and gifting food and I can’t stay out of the kitchen! I make over 30 loaves of sourdough bread for Christmas gifts (usually all in one day!)

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Taco Bell. I know it’s junk but it’s cheap and fast and I LOVE it. I also love trashy reality TV and tabloid magazines.

If you had the choice of a free kitchen, bathroom, living room or bedroom makeover – which would you choose and why?

I think kitchen—I really need more cabinet and counter space, and my appliances are old and outdated. I would also love to have a pantry and maybe some more built-ins for my HUGE cookbook collection

The Martha – Angel of Domestication or Minion of Evil? Why?

Not sure if I would say Angel, but I love her and get her magazine & own a ton of her cookbooks
