How long have you been a Daring Baker/Daring Cook and what’s your favorite thing about being in the group(s) so far?
I just joined in time for the February, 2011 challenge. I love that I can learn new techniques and get exposed to many different styles of foods.
What’s your favorite kitchen gadget? How about your favorite kitchen appliance?
So far, my favorite gadget is my kitchen aid mixer and mini pie plates, my husband purchase for me, for my birthday.
Are you known for making a certain dish or dessert? If so, what is it?
My friends always request I make them apple pie.
Is there any recipe and/or technique that we haven’t covered yet that you’d really like to make/learn?
I would love to try sou vide (warm water cooking technique) and making noodles. Not sure if it has been covered yet.
Do you have a favorite movie? Book? Genre of music? Actor? Actress?
I love any Jane Austen movies. My favorite books (I live by) are Laura Ingalls Wilder books..they have been my inspiration in cooking, running my house and my hobbies.
You’ve just won $5000.00!!! What would you spend it on?
We are saving to be able to have children and a home.
What is the ultimate comfort food to you?
Meat dish, rice and vegetables.
Which season (Winter, Summer, Spring, Fall) is your favorite.. why?
Fall. I love the changing leaves and harvest foods.
Other than cooking and/or baking.. what hobbies do you enjoy?
crocheting, quilting and arts and crafts
How long have you been blogging? Do you like it? What’s your favorite post you’ve written?
I started in December and I love posting. My favorite post so far is when I made Bacon Wrapped Roasted Chicken with Bacon Croissant Stuffing. Never wrapped a chicken before in bacon, nor have I ever stuffed a chicken before so it was a fun thing to do.
What’s your favorite cookbook for desserts/baking? What’s your favorite cookbook for savory/cooking?
I don’t really have one at the moment. I do use the Betty Crocker Cookbook for inspiration, but I usually do a lot of things on my own.
Is there one food that you seriously dislike/hate? If so, which is it and why?
Cooked carrots and warm milk. YUCK! Something about it is such a turn off. Also, dislike leftover chicken. There is an aftertaste I can’t stand.
What’s your favorite flower and/or plant?
Roses and ivy.
Do you have a favorite local restaurant? If so, why is it your favorite and what kind of food is served there?
I love a variety. Local restaurants: L&B Spumoni Gardens (pizzay), Chip Shop (British Foods, Pho Tay Ho (Vietnamese) etc
Who taught you how to cook and/or bake?
I started when I was 7, with my mother and things pretty much took off from there. I learn as I go.
What’s your favorite holiday and why?
Thanksgiving. It was the only day that I could prepare a feast and no one complained. Since I got married, it is still my favorite, but my husband loves it when I have fun in the kitchen, so if I want, I can make a feast, any time.

Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief and its series.
You’ve had a rough week. How do you relax after a rough week?
Read a good book, crochet, cook something nice and have a glass of wine.
Where is your favorite vacation (holiday) destination?
St Lucia. We went there for our honeymoon.
What is your favorite cooking/food related magazine? Why?
Cooking for two. Often times, I am only cooking for two people.
Do you have a food addiction?
What did you eat for dinner last night? Did you prepare it or someone else?
Sweet Potato and Pork Pie with Zucchini Pastry. I prepared it.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Chocolate, BBQ Pork Ribs
What kind of colors do you like? Pastels? Earth tones? Brights? Neons? Etc.
I like Royal colors (Royal Blue, Burgundy, Forest Green, Chocolate Brown) Mostly Blues, Golds and Reds
If you had the choice of a free kitchen, bathroom, living room or bedroom makeover – which would you choose and why?
Kitchen. I always wanted a beautifully designed custom kitchen. I am 5 feet tall and my kitchen, the place I love to be in the most, is too tall for me. It constantly gives me shoulder and back pain.
Do you watch any competitive cooking shows? Like Top Chef or Hell’s Kitchen? If so, which is your favorite and why?
I used to like Top Chef but it got too “drama”
What’s your favorite “sweet” spice? How about your favorite “savory” spice?
Cinnamon-Sugar and savory: red pepper and cumin
If you could eat in any celebrity chef’s restaurant which restaurant would it be, and which chef owns it?
No clue, depends on the menu. One of my favorite meals was at the Culinary Institute of America, Napa, California.
What’s your favorite herb to cook or bake with? Do you prefer fresh or dried?
Basil and garlic probably, I prefer fresh

Do you have a time saving kitchen tip you’d like to share with us?
When you make something, if it is freezable, make more so that you have foods for busy days. When I make sauces, I put them in freezer bags and lay them flat, so that when they are frozen, they are easy to stack.
