Hello, I’m Steve. I was born and raised in the great Pacific Northwest. I was born and lived in Oregon.
Then moved to Washington state 14 years ago. I’m a teacher (emphasis on primary levels, kindergarten through third grade). I have always loved to cook and bake. My mom taught me some basics before leaving for college, other than that I’ve taught myself by reading cookbooks, watching tv shows, and just getting in the kitchen and trying. I’m pretty adventurous when it comes to eating and trying new foods. Besides cooking, enjoy reading mysteries and thrillers, working on word puzzles, and playing board games and cards with friends.
How long have you been a Daring Baker/Daring Cook and what’s your favorite thing about being in the group(s) so far?
I just joined both groups. I like being introduced to new new techniques and having a reason to attempt them myself.
What’s your favorite kitchen gadget? How about your favorite kitchen appliance?
My favorite kitchen gadget would be my garlic press, I use it all the time. My favorite appliance would be either my mixer or food processor.
Are you known for making a certain dish or dessert? If so, what is it?
No dish in particular, but known for always bringing great desserts.
Is there any recipe and/or technique that we haven’t covered yet that you’d really like to make/learn?
Not sure yet since I just joined both sites.
Do you have a favorite movie? Book? Genre of music? Actor? Actress?
Two of my favorites movies are A Christmas Story and The Game. I enjoy reading thrillers, suspense, and mysteries.

I would use it to pay part of my student loan off.
What is the ultimate comfort food to you?
Food with cheese!

Spring and summer

I like Alton Brown’s cookbooks. Also frequently refer to The Joy of Cooking for reference or a starting point.
Is there one food that you seriously dislike/hate? If so, which is it and why?
Yes, I seriously hate onions. Used to not even cook with them, though I have gotten better about using them when I cook. If they are cooked down I’m ok, if not I pick them out. I blame my mother for my hatred of onions, because one of the few things she could eat when she was pregnant with me was onion rings. I always tell her, I got my fill of onions then.
What’s your favorite flower and/or plant?
Love Monkey Trees, also known as Puzzle trees.
Do you have a favorite local restaurant? If so, why is it your favorite and what kind of food is served there?
Yes, Sapparo and Myabi. Both Japanese that serve yummy and tasty sushi.
Who taught you how to cook and/or bake?
My mother taught me some basics, other than that self taught by reading cookbooks and watching cooking shows on television.
What’s your favorite holiday and why?
New Year’s, because it is also my birthday.

Hang with friends, eat dinner, talk, and play cards or board games.
Where is your favorite vacation (holiday) destination?
Like traveling to different locations, this past summer visited New Orleans and Chicago and enjoyed lots of different yummy foods.

earth tones, dark green being my favorite.
If you had the choice of a free kitchen, bathroom, living room or bedroom makeover – which would you choose and why?
I would choose kitchen in an instant because love being in the kitchen. At times, it helps me distress and relax.
The Martha – Angel of Domestication or Minion of Evil? Why?
Hahaha! I would say both. I do admire her for bringing her name and product back from the brink of destruction.
Do you watch any competitive cooking shows? Like Top Chef or Hell’s Kitchen? If so, which is your favorite and why?
Top Chef and Chopped. Favorite would be Top Chef, just amazed what some of them do with the challenges. Wish we had smell o vision too.
What’s your favorite “sweet” spice? How about your favorite “savory” spice?
Sweet spice would have to be cinnamon, savory spice would be cumin.
If you could eat in any celebrity chef’s restaurant which restaurant would it be, and which chef owns it?
Would have to be Paula Deen’s Lady and Son’s.
What’s your favorite herb to cook or bake with? Do you prefer fresh or dried?
Love rosemary. Generally use dried, but do love to use fresh when it is affordable and/or reasonable to use.

I use my egg slicer to also slice mushrooms or strawberries.
