Hi! My name is Kimberly, I usually go by Kim. I am currently a Research Associate in a biochemistry lab in New Orleans, LA.
I’m hoping to change that and gain more experience as a Pastry Chef.
How long have you been a Daring Baker/Daring Cook and what’s your favorite thing about being in the group(s) so far?
I’m been a member since mid-June so I’m quite new to the group. I like the fact that I’ll be a part of a community with the same passion from all over the world, sharing recipes, getting advice, etc.
What’s your favorite kitchen gadget? How about your favorite kitchen appliance?
Hmmm…this one’s tough I think because I don’t have much. I would have to say at the moment my favorite appliance is our new oven and range. But I really think that’s just because it’s brand spankin new! I would also love to say that my favorites involve baking but really…to stay true to my heart and my very unhealthy obsession with coffee and all things related…I’m going to have to say my coffee grinder and coffee maker.
Are you known for making a certain dish or dessert? If so, what is it?
I don’t think I am. I tend to make a lot of different things, and have moved locations too often. But I would have to say that before leaving for college, everyone at high school knew me for my white chocolate cheesecake.
Is there any recipe and/or technique that we haven’t covered yet that you’d really like to make/learn?
I’m really terrible at soufflés! So maybe if I could get some practice with a traditional soufflé that would be great!
You’ve just won $5000.00!!! But it comes with some stipulations.. you can’t spend it on your kids or your significant other! This is all YOURS. What would you spend it on? (we’re also going to fantasize that you have no bills whatsoever! Woo!! Hehee)
I would absolutely use it to open my own bakery. Or maybe take some classes to make sure that I knew what I was doing when opening my own bakery. That’s my goal with or without the $5,000.
What is the ultimate comfort food to you?
Savory, I would have to say anything involving lobster. For dessert, chocolate truffles.
Which season (Winter, Summer, Spring, Fall) is your favorite.. why?
Probably fall mainly because that’s the time of year where pumpkin is in season and, like coffee, I have an extremely unhealthy obsession with pumpkin!
Other than cooking and/or baking.. what hobbies do you enjoy?
I usually run when I have time, read any book with a good story, play volleyball occasionally for a friends team, play around with glass mosaic art, make and sell my handmade candles, and when I’m back in my hometown I love to horseback ride!
How long have you been blogging? Do you like it? What’s your favorite post you’ve written?
I haven’t been blogging very long. Maybe since June? I do like it a lot. I tend to check my viewing activity 2-3 times a day to see who’s been looking. I haven’t really thought of my favorite post. I think that’s still up in the air.
What’s your favorite cookbook for desserts/baking? What’s your favorite cookbook for savory/cooking?
Of the books in my pathetic cooking library, I’d have to say my favorite desserts cookbook is Perfect Chocolate. I can’t find an author anywhere on the book, but I DO know that the publishing company is Paragon Publishers. A co-worker gave this book to me for my birthday and I haven’t come across a bad recipe yet! I’d have to say that the savory cookbook I use the most is my Joy of Cooking book that has been passed down from my grandmother to mother and then to me. This baby was printed in 1964.
