Your Thanksgiving menu probably includes the usual assortment of time-honored recipes, but just in case you’re looking for something new this year, we’ve compiled this selection of holiday recipes from our member Daring Bakers and Daring Cooks.

For most of us, the iconic turkey sits plump and proud at the center of the Thanksgiving table. That gorgeous bird pictured at left was brined in maple syrup and smoked to perfection over cherry wood. You can find the recipe for Maple Brined Turkey at Burp! including instructions for either smoking or roasting the bird. (Photo by Burp!).

We’ve got more turkey recipes below. Plus, you’ll find a festive assortment of side dishes, some traditional, some daring. Be sure to save room for dessert, because we’ve got quite a tempting array of sweet treats. Thank you to all the participating bloggers for sharing their holiday recipes and photos. The Make Ahead Brunch

Photos and Written by Jeanne of Jeanne Eats World

Brunch is a beautiful thing, isn’t it? Not quite breakfast, not quite lunch, and an excellent excuse to get friends together for an afternoon of relaxed fun. The problem for the host or hostess is often being able to enjoy their own party – so many breakfast foods are best served immediately after they’re made. Think scrambled eggs, pancakes, waffles… so how do you serve a delicious brunch without running around like a chicken with its head cut off?

The answer is the make-ahead brunch. All the work happens the day before, so all you need to do the day of your brunch is turn on the oven and look pretty for your guests. Or, if you like, cut up some fruit or make a green salad to add some freshness to the menu!

July 4th Dessert: Mixed Berry Shortcake

Written by Kelly of Sass & Veracity.

I suppose you could convince me there is a dessert that typifies summer more than shortcake, and you might be able to string me along for a while before I came to my senses to explain delicately that, at least to me, not much else can compete.

My shortcake memories go back years, but they always begin the same: with a biscuit. Not a slice of angel food cake, or pound cake. A lowly biscuit. One that, if you’re me, would normally be found on a plate filled with beans, rice, and coleslaw. That kind of biscuit. The one that not much else can compare to when it comes to soaking up juice and binding everything together, whether it’s dessert or not.

Sure, I’ve tried a variety of recipes, combinations of flavors and ingredients, but in the end I’m only truly satisfied with that slightly salty bite of biscuit and the tart sweetness of fresh berries tempered by the richness of cream. It’s fabulous.

The UK is a great place to be during the holiday season. There are a lot of fun, family friendly traditions, and plenty of good food. As with most other places, Christmas is especially exciting for children, and they look forward to a visit from Father Christmas all year long.
