I am 27 and reside in Chennai, India. I am married to a lovely man I met 5 years ago.
Cooking was never my forte till I got married but it has now become my full time hobby and an obsession. I love trying new recipes though I hardly find time for it as I work full-time. I am really looking forward to having kids so that I can take a break from my work and find time and eager audience for my new newly acquired skills.
How long have you been a Daring Baker/Daring Cook and what’s your favorite thing about being in the group(s) so far?
I have been part of both the groups for less than six months. The groups discuss new dishes every month in the challenges and help me widen my horizon in baking/cooking. Even if I am unable to participate in the challenge, I do go through them regularly and try to understand the different methods of making the same dish. Another thing I like is that there is no limitation to the range of ingredients or variations provided. As I am a vegetarian, I am provided the freedom to mould the dishes to my desire while keeping the basic ingredients the same.
What’s your favorite kitchen gadget? How about your favorite kitchen appliance?
It is definitely the mixer grinder. I use it as often as I can as I have a preference of puree based dishes. Also, as I am Indian, I use a lot of spices and I mostly use the mixer to grind my spices. It is faster even though the resulting spice powder might not be as fine.
Are you known for making a certain dish or dessert? If so, what is it?
I am proud to say that I am famous for making cakes especially eggless ones in my family. I got the knack of mixing and matching ingredients according to will for cake batter from my Mom which has made me famous on my husband’s side. I really really hope to have kids soon so I can make and bake loads of cakes of all types for them.
You’ve just won $5000.00!!!
Lemme see….clothes, shoes and a weekend on a cruise
What is the ultimate comfort food to you?
Chocolate ice-cream – can’t resist it. If it is in the fridge, it won’t last one night there.
Other than cooking and/or baking.. what hobbies do you enjoy?
I simply love to embroider, crochet and do tatting. I love to keep my hands busy, mainly to keep them from putting something in my mouth…. He he he.
How long have you been blogging? Do you like it? What’s your favorite post you’ve written?
I have been blogging for a year now though I am not able to give it much time due to my full-time work schedule. I love trying new dishes and blogging is my way of keeping track of all the recipes I have learnt. My absolutely fav post is ‘Vegetable Maggi’ as it reminds me of college times when a simple vegetable noodle dish would suffice the entire meal and would taste better than the best dish in the world.
If you could bake/cook with other Daring Bakers/Daring Cooks, who would they be and why?
I would love to work with Ivonne of Cream Puffs in Venice. I find her recipe descriptions crystal clear and the minutest detail about what could go wrong is mentioned. Cooking/baking with her will definitely be a great learning experience.
Who taught you how to cook and/or bake?
My dear Mommy has taught me everything in the kitchen. She has been my inspiration and my ideal in the kitchen. Even today, I can only aspire to cook/bake like her. We love watching cookery shows together. She is the one person who has made me who I am today.
Aside from chocolate for most of us, do you have a food addiction?
I love chips of all kinds – potato, banana, tapioca….. I cannot resist them. I try not to stock any at home. They are my bane and the reason for my expanding waistline. I used to eat whole packs of them every day. They were my comfort food. Giving them up was one of the hardest things I had to do in my life. I still can’t resist them if they are offered to me. They are my guilty pleasure and a real addiction.
Do you watch any competitive cooking shows? Like Top Chef or Hell’s Kitchen? If so, which is your favorite and why?
OMG. I just looooooooooove watching Top Chef. These people are so talented. How they can come up with such amazing dishes is beyond me. It is a great learning experience apart from the thrill of finding out who passed the test or not.
